Gumnut Babies are fantasy figures in a series of children's
books set in the Australian bush with the title Tales of
Snugglepot and Cuddlepie created around 1915 by the
Australian author and illustrator Cecilia May Gibbs (1877-1969).
     
"I thought of the Australian gum leaf, which was an ideal shape
for a bookmark and a pretty thing. In the middle of the night I
awoke, and in fancy, saw peeping over a long gum leaf, a little
